Surprise! I’m in…

So you may know I’m moving to Australia at the end of March. Ok technically I’m moving to Australia at the end of April but we leave the UK at the end of March, but… details.

So where have work decided to send me for two weeks?

Yes, hello from Adelaide.

Are you confused? That’s ok. I still am. Basically I should be here for about 2 weeks, after which I’ll return to the UK for just under 3 weeks before leaving for good.

Yes it was quite annoying to lose half of the remaining time I had in the country.

Yes I did have some visa issues that made me SO STRESSED that I peaced out of the internet for a bit.

Yes I was going to miss my own goodbye party (it’s ok, we managed to reschedule it and only a few people can’t make the new date – although one is my bestie so I’m quite sad about that).

And yes, I have taken advantage of my generous baggage allowance in business class in an attempt to minimise my shipping budget.

All in all, I’m happy to be here exploring somewhere new. And seeing some sunshine! So far, I’ve been to small town Victoria, and now I’m in Adelaide, South Australia. That’s two new Australian states ticked off for me, and I’m thoroughly enjoying it.

The small town we visited was in the middle of the desert yet contained inexplicably good dining options (plus Heston Blumenthal, who ate in the restaurant my colleagues ate in the night before I arrived. Gutted to have missed that) and we’ve come to Adelaide during their Fringe festival. I’ve got tickets to see Tom Ballard tonight so I’m pretty excited about that.

All photos taken from my perambulations around Adelaide to date. I’ve spent one night in the beachy suburb of Glenelg where people are scarily active, and a morning wandering the Botanic Gardens which are just beautiful.

Have you ever been to Adelaide? Anywhere I need to check out?

Wow, that’s a somewhat hilarious turn of events! I wish I had a job that sent me to all sorts of places (then again, logistically, that would be a nightmare with young children right now, so maybe that’s for the best…)!

How funny that they would send you there just before you move there lol. Hope you’re enjoying the sun at least 🙂 I almost did a semester abroad in Adelaide actually, but Australia is still on my to-visit list xx

Oh my gosh haha… so, wondering who was on admin duty when they sent you there? Whoops aha. Still – jealous you have a job that can send you all over the world!

I still think that’s so funny that they sent you there for two weeks before you’re supposed to move full time! I’m glad that you were able to reschedule your going away party, but what a bummer that your bestie can’t be there! Hopefully y’all can have your own going away dinner or something. I hope that you’re enjoying your early time in your new home!

I wish my work would send me to fun places! Stinks that you can’t spend more time at home but that’s got to be cool!

I love that they sent you in business class (and that you’re capitalizing on that)!! At least they take care of you in that way…. sad that your bestie is going to miss the party but glad that you were able to reschedule it! Hugs!!

That’s just crazy that your job sent you to Adelaide right before your big re-location, but hey, you seem to be making the best of it. I love the glass-enclosed entrance to the gardens. Is that what it is? It is so pretty. I’ve yet to go to SA or Adelaide yet.

Now, that is a LONGGGGGGGG way to go for a business trip, haha!

Adelaide is one Australian city I haven’t yet visited yet – but it’s on our list as friends of ours moved there a few years back!

That’s hard to be out of the country when you need to be packing, etc. I’ve never been to Australia, but I would love to visit 🙂

  14. 2nd March 2017 / 17:25

that sucks you lost a chunk of your remaining time, i know the feeling of OMGIHAVEAMILLIONTHINGSTODO and being unable to do them – like, being in another country – would stress me out hardcore. bonus about the bringing stuff over to avoid shipping = brilliant! what small town in victoria?? 🙂

  15. 4th March 2017 / 01:42

Ahh, it’s so cool you’re moving to Australia! My boyfriend has dual citizenship there because his mom is from Sydney. He’s been a handful of times, but we’re hoping to go back together within the next couple of years so I can meet his Australian family. 🙂 Sending good luck vibes your way! So funny that you’re there for work now though, haha. Oh well!
