Currently: Australian Spring edition

I’m off on holiday on Monday! My out of office is on and I’m officially in holiday mode. Which means it’s time for a good ol’ currently post.

Loving ¦¦ The jacaranda blossoms all over town. Jacaranda season is the best! This is definitely not the best photo of jacaranda I’ve ever taken, but just trust me on how spectacular they are.

Feeling ¦¦ Happy to have won a blog award! Which I had no idea about until I was emailed that I had won. Now, I was fully expecting this to be a scam but even if it’s a vague attempt to generate traffic, it’s a fairly well done one. They’ve even typed out a description of my blog that I didn’t write myself, which I think is pretty dedicated. You can find the whole list here. I also managed to feature on the Feedspot Top 100 Expat Blogs (I didn’t even know there were 100 expat blogs?!), which wasn’t hard because I submitted myself. Full disclosure folks. I appear to have been assigned #62 so yay for being below average.

Buying ¦¦ Myself a new bin. The details are boring but we were managing with a tiny bin with the most ridiculous swing top ever. The whole situation gave me daily rage so I finally upgraded (to this in case you care. Kmart addicts beware, I’m looking at you Courtney). The moral of the story is – you are worth it! Buy the bin.

Killing ¦¦ All the plants on our balcony. They’re planted into a bed in the wall and they were there when we moved in, so technically they’re part of the fabric of the place and we need to keep them alive. We are not keeping them alive. First we probably underwatered them, now I think we are overdoing it. I don’t know. I have visions of us having to spend a fortune in Bunnings to replace them when we move out, and I don’t even know what kind of plants they are. It’s very stressful.

[What are this??]

Vacillating ¦¦ Wildly between mega ultra meal planning and making gourmet Pinterest crockpot dinners every night, versus just ordering a week of Youfoodz. Or Lite n Easy. I’ve had friends recommend both (thanks Lauren!) and sometimes I think… wouldn’t life be so easy?! And as a Block addict I am now oddly keen to try Sticks & Wombat’s Winning Coconut Curry Bowl. I just need to figure out which is better for gluten free. Anyone tried a meal service like this? With no prep whatsoever?

Sticking ¦¦ Happy things on my fridge. I finally bought some magnets and used them to stick up some polaroids and useful organising things, got a magnet hook to hang things off, and a tiny whiteboard for messages and shopping lists. The whole fridge door front is crammed full of things that bring me joy and I love it!

Swinging ¦¦ By the beach. No, I’m still Not a Beach Person but I definitely enjoyed this view (and eating overlooking it). How is this country real?!

Scheduling ¦¦ Electronic birthday cards for birthdays back home. I haven’t quite got my act together enough to send real ones – that’s a work in progress. For now I’ve found a pretty classy e-card provider, Paperless Post. Anyone else tried them? Hopefully the person I sent it to isn’t reading this… that’ll be a test to see who reads my blog!

Packing ¦¦ For said holiday. On Monday we’re off to Queenstown, New Zealand! I’ll be giving it my best try on the ol’ Instastories, so if you like mountains and lakes and whatnot then I’m your gal for the next 10 days. Although, full disclosure, this is not a normal holiday. We haven’t actually got that much fun stuff planned because the point of the trip is to Sort Stuff Out. Sorry about the vagueblogging but it’s not my Stuff we’re sorting out so it’s not really my place to say; and don’t worry, we’re both fine. Maybe I’ll write about it when we get back, we’ll see how it goes. If you want to know, email me and I’ll likely tell you. I’m just not going to put it all right out here.

Have you ever been to Queenstown? Any tips for me?

Well done on the blog award – must be down to those awesome guest posts 😂

Very sorry to hear about the balcony plants – at least I got to enjoy them while they were still living!

Can’t wait to hear what Queenstown is like… I bet it will be amazing.

Ohh have a lovely time in Queenstown, all very mysterious! Head to fergburger and basically just spend the whole 10 days just incapable of moving cause the whole place is so gorgeous.

A few years back I was in Oz during the spring and it was amazing! Australia is lovely in spring. Cant wait to read about NZ!

Congrats on the award! If it makes you feel better I think was in the 80’s or 90’s on the feedspot list haha. Travis actually hates our trash can with a passion because it’s a swing top one but it was hard to find one the fits the space in our current place. We move next week so maybe we can upgrade. When I saw you were at the beach on Insta I was going to ask if you’ve become a beach person yet.

Living near the beach sounds so fun. Just being not landlocked would be the draw for me.

How are you adjusting to the seasonal switch?

Congrats on the blog award! And, that is a beautiful beach 🙂

Hooray for a long holiday, and I just hope that everything is ok with whatever is going on! New Zealand and Australia have both been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember, so you’d better believe that I’ll be excited to see what you have planned while you’re there! And don’t worry, I definitely don’t have a green thumb. Chris always jokes around that he doesn’t want to buy me flowers because I kill them too quickly!

Have a great time in New Zealand! xx

I hope the stuff you are sorting out isn’t too bad and you get to enjoy Queenstown. Honestly it’s pretty touristy but it’s also really pretty, so there’s that. Atlas Beer Cafe has really nice food AND was recommended to us by an actual local (who claimed it has the best steak and chips in Queenstown but I wouldn’t know since I ate something else 😉 ). Queenstown Gardens are pretty too and you can play frisbee golf which is fun 🙂

I hear New Zealand is gorgeous, so I hope you have a nice time. I know of Paperless Post – they have some really pretty cards, and e-cards totally work!

Yay vacation! How many days off do you guys get a year? I’m always curious about that vs. the pittance most Americans get.

  14. 4th November 2017 / 11:19

Congrats on the blog award and being in the top 100!

I am terrible at keeping plants alive! We got some for the boys and we did okay until just recently – they didn’t take kindly to us leaving them for 4 days to go to Sydney and now they are sadly all dead 🙁 I’m waiting until the boys forget about them so I can go hide the evidence in the bin….I’ve killed cacti and succulents before so I’m really a plants worst nightmare. No idea how I can keep a dog and two toddlers alive! I do recognise your plants though, they are bird of paradise I’m fairly sure:

Enjoy your time in New Zealand! I hope you manage to figure out all the stuff you have to sort out and you have a relaxing remaining time there! I still haven’t been to New Zealand but would love to go one day, my parents did a driving holiday there this year while we went to Sydney!

Hope you are having a lovely weekend 🙂

Congrats on both awards! I think I was also 60 something on the feedspot list haha, they actually sent me an email congratulating me for my blog about being an expat in Norway… I was like, uhhhhhh… but turned out they got me mixed with the person above me I think. Enjoy your vacation!!

There’s just something so spring about jacarandas and beach shots. Wooo! Congrats on the awards, it’s so nice to be recognised sometimes.

I’m so jealous of your trip to New Zealand. Have I already told you that? And that beach you captured in your picture? *swoon* That would be a happy second. (Or first. I’m really not particular when it comes to travel.)

Congrats on your blog award! It is well deserved! 🙂

Hello friends of the Nesting Nomad. I am S, Rachel’s husband. I just wanted to put on record here how lovely Rach is, as you all already know anyway. The discussions and conversations she refers to that were not her story to tell largely revolved around me – there are or were decisions I needed to make and was struggling, largely mentally, to process them. Rach volunteered an entire holiday for us to work through those issues. When we could have been out sightseeing every day, she instead sat down with me and patiently worked through my thoughts, concerns and confusion. (We did manage some fun stuff.) Basically she’s a pretty wonderful person and I am blessed that she would commit to helping me in such a way.

I am absolutely loving all your Milford sound photos – such a stunningly beautiful place! … almost enough to make me consider the flying option someday, but small planes freak me out so we’ll see how that goes! haha :p xx
