Pre-Christmas stream of consciousness

We’re on the downhill slope everyone! It’s so nearly time before we can wave a merry goodbye to 2016 and pray fervently for a better 2017. Anyway, I’m off on holiday today and I’ve officially clocked off from 2016. So I thought I’d share the stream of consciousness from my wrung out, strung out, end of year brain. You’re welcome.

~ Jen is an absolute legend. This lady took time out of her busy life (she has an adorable new daughter, plus studying for a masters, not to mention training for all sorts of epic marathons and such) to act as my very own US based forwarding service. Long story short thanks to Jen I now have a brand new Fitbit and I’m SO HAPPY with it. I can’t believe how kind she’s been to me and it just goes to show, you really can meet genuinely nice, friendly people through blogging. Not everyone on the internet is a weirdo or out for personal gain. Once again, thank you so much Jen!

My new Fitbit charge 2 with a leather strap

I have the Fitbit Charge 2*, and I even got a pretty new strap* to go with it. It’s real leather! Hopefully this will cure the unfortunate case of Fitbit rash I had with my last model.

No thanks to Delta who are annoyingly incompetent. That’s all I say on the matter.

~ I wrote a thing for Amtrak! I’m going to take a minute to be proud of myself because I think that’s underrated these days. You can read it here.

Do you think it still sounds like me? They edited it a bit because, y’know, their blog is a little more corporate than mine. Also more American. What do you reckon?

~ It’s frighteningly close to Christmas. 3 days? What?

~ Speaking of Christmas, we’re doing something a little different this year and travelling on Christmas morning. The theory is that everyone will be too busy opening presents and putting their turkeys in the oven to be out on the roads, but we shall see. Travelling at Christmas is always a pain so anything less than that I’ll count as a win!

~ I’m now replying to all my comments via email. I wasn’t sure people received my replies (I don’t always when I comment on others using the inbuilt WordPress comment system) and also it’s nice to have a chat offline. What do you think? Do you reply to comments via email? Any general opinions thereof?

~ I think next door have a new dog (or maybe they’re just dogsitting for a reeeally long time?) and it’s a barker. Such a barker. We share a wall down the entire of our house with them and can hear what goes on in their house quite well – kids being yelled down for dinner, the husband singing opera to himself, the usual – but this is a bit much. I’d go and say something but we’re only here for a couple of months more 🙂

Have you clocked out of the year yet? Any annoying pet neighbour stories to share?

-Rachel

Loving the Joycean flow of consciousness narrative style! Most suitable for this time of year. Am in full clocking off mode, thanks for asking… comfy joggers and wrist warmers on, empty cup of ginger tea on the bookshelf nearby. And very much looking forward to seeing you both soon xx

I like receiving comments through email! I don’t think that I was getting the notification originally. And hooray for great blogging friends! That’s so awesome that Jen sent you a new Fitbit! I noticed that you popped back up on Fitbit! I can’t wait to see where you’re going for your Christmas travels! In The States, it always seems like there’s nobody on the road on actual Christmas, so hopefully it’s the same for y’all! Merry Christmas!

Love that band on the Fitbit!!!
We always would travel on Thanksgiving for the same reason & it really did cut down on traffic.

Oh that fit bit!! Mine is a year old, and the only thing I don’t like about it is that it’s not “cute.” I’m pretty casual, so it’s not the biggest deal, but there are those few times a year that I won’t wear it because it doesn’t go. The pretty straps are tempting but I’m planning to stick with mine for as long as it lasts. Email is the only way I can reply to comments. I don’t have anything downloaded and I just found out that the reply function on my blog comments literally does not work. I think the html is wonky and I have no clue how to fix it. How cool you got to write for Amtrack. I’ll check it out.

Loved this stream of consciousness :p
I just read the Amtrak article – Congrats and I think it definitely still sounds like you! I’ll definitely have to check out that train trip when we (one day hopefully not too far away!) make it to the US!
Great idea about replying via email – I definitely need to update the comment system on my blog actually cause I’m still just using the blogger one which isn’t great!
Hope you and your family had a lovely Christmas! xx

Sounds like you had a great year! You visited so many places! You will love Australia. I live in Melbourne, but Sydney is beautiful… and much warmer! 🙂

Yay for your Amtrak article! Hope you had a wonderful Christmas vacation. The past two years, my husband and I have traveled on Christmas night and found the planes and airport to be empty and prices to be better (more award availability). I just don’t think I could desert my family on actual Christmas day!
