Oops I’m in Barcelona. And Andorra.

…celebrating a birthday!

Happy birthday, S!

Last year I wrote a sappy post about S, to make up for the fact we hadn’t gone anywhere exciting for his birthday (we spent my birthday last year in Bangkok…) and that he had to spend it alone with colleagues on a work trip instead. They didn’t even know it was his birthday!

So this year we’ve managed to go away. Yesterday we arrived in Barcelona, and today S decided that for his birthday he’d like to go on a road trip to Andorra. Just because he could.

Turns out the countryside in Andorra is quite pretty.

Although I wouldn’t rate the towns much, sadly. The most exciting part of the capital is the rather extravagant spa:

But S is Not A Spa Person so we headed straight for the hills.

We found a beautiful church…

 …with a killer view.

And a super pretty lake which we sat alongside whilst S opened his cards.

We ended the trip with a picnic in front of this view – mountain lovers, hold on to your hats:

Safe to say I’m a convert to the Pyrenees.

Happy birthday S, here’s to many more years and many more views together.

P.S. This was posted entirely from my phone as I’m on a laptop-less holiday (hooray!). Please let me know if it’s gone awry…

WOW. The post is excellent. Hooray for smart phones!
Lovely pics. Lovely views. Lovely couple. You guys sure do know how to celebrate birthdays. First, Greece, now this!

Aren’t they magical? I’m going to sound like a proper old lady but who’d have imagined we could do all this on phones even 10 years ago. Anyway, we’ve definitely gone big for birthdays this year. We’ve used the big 30 as an excuse, so I think we’re going to have to tone things right down next year!

Gorgeous pictures! Perfect setting for a birthday!

Thank you! And yes, it was rather picturesque. I had no idea what it was going to be like so I’m glad we found some nice nature to hang out in 🙂

Ah why not a road trip for the birthday! Andorra looks beautiful and I looove Barcelona, one of my fave European cities!

    • 2nd August 2016 / 22:08

Precisely! Any excuse. Andorra was beautiful in bits but a mixed bag in others. Bit of a strange place really but I’m glad we went. I reckon it’d be great for skiing.

Barcelona was gorgeous, such a cool place!

I don’t know you manage to post from your vacation! It takes me ages after a holiday to get started on editing pictures and figuring out what to write 😀
Andorra seems absolutely gorgeous!! And happy belated birthday to your husband!

Well it was quite experimental but turns out the WordPress app is really very good! I’m normally the same as you, though. There are posts I still haven’t written from our Santorini trip in May so… you’re not the only one!

Andorra was stunning in places, but the cities weren’t very nice if I’m honest. Very crowded, which is to be expected in such a small place. The mountains were great, though.

I’m envious of anyone who can up and move anywhere for two months! Okay well maybe not *anywhere*. But still. Lucky friend! The mountains in Andorra were just beautiful, I have to say. It packs a punch for a small country.

I hope you make it back to Barcelona one day! I really enjoyed our visit, but it was faaaaaaaar to short 🙁

Andorra looks so incredibly beautiful, and I’m also super jealous that you could just decide to go there to celebrate S’s birthday! I hope that y’all had the best time celebrating!

    • 2nd August 2016 / 22:25

It was gorgeous, but I definitely showed you the highlights – the cities were not so nice! We scarpered through them pretty quickly. It’s such a privilege to be able to travel to these destinations relatively easily. We had a super time, thank you!

Rachel, your photos get better and better, these are beyond beautiful! I love the shades of blue, they are so calming! This sounds like the loveliest way to spend a birthday; Happy Birthday, S! 🙂

Thanks Marcella! You’re too kind! There was a lot of blue about, made a good change from England which has gone back to grey again… You brought the good weather with you!

      And S says thanks!

oh my gosh, what gorgeous views! happy belated birthday to S!

    • 2nd August 2016 / 22:27

Yup, they were pretty awesome. Very windy though! I kept eating my hair which detracted from the experience somewhat. Anyway, S says thank you!
