Packing for Santorini & an announcement

As someone who is terrible at packing, I’m trying to get ahead here and think things through at least 5 hours before I get on the plane. I’m not going til the 14th of May, which means I have time to buy any of the below items before I go… Just sayin…

Packing for Santorini in May 2

Working through in columns…Things I don’t already own (or own similar of) I’ll be marking with a ^. At the end, you can tell me which of them I should buy 🙂

I already own a stripy maxi dress very similar to this one, which I think would do a good turn in either day or night time. The only trouble being I think there are a lot of steps to navigate, so as a clumsy person I’ll need to be careful with this.

^I think I need a day dress and I think this one from Boden is beautiful. They have it in plain navy on the UK site and I’m very close to pulling the trigger… Shame about the price tag though.

This skirt I already own (!) and I love it. It’s much more colourful than anything else I own and would similarly do well for day or night.

I have some plain navy shorts which I think will go better in Santorini than my usual beaten up denim ones. Mine have a little white frill at the bottom which I like a lot.

These are new to me too! Part of my birthday shopping treat. They don’t look that nice here, I’ll give you that, but they’re so comfy on and rolled up a little with a nice sandal they’ll be just the trick.

Plain black tee… enough said really. You can’t go anywhere without one of these.

And also a grey one, for when I spill ice cream down the black one.

A scarf, in case it gets cold in the evening.

A denim jacket, ditto.

^A white top, to give me options. This one is beautiful. If only it weren’t so expensive…

My trusty stripy bikini, which I love. I hear rumours of a hot tub so I’m going prepared.

I just got this dress from SheIn and it was the only good thing in my order of like, 7 things. I’m not shopping there again.

Yay for my fruit infuser bottle! It’ll definitely come in handy with all those steps.

^A backpack, to tote around all my photography equipment (unless S kindly volunteers again…).

Some sunglasses for obvious reasons. I’ll also be taking my contact lenses for all the vision.

My camera, which I love.

I adore these shoes, and they’re surprisingly comfy. Not comfy enough to wear all day though, so these will be evening wear only.

Then my TOMS for comfy daytime walking, after my Converse bruised my Achilles tendon (sadface).

And finally my Havaianas, which may or may not be real Havaianas. They work a dream and that’s all that matters to me (plus not paying stupid amounts for basic shoes).

Other things: suncream, a hat, books, all the gluten free food. We’re self catering this time, not getting caught short like I did in Istanbul!

So that’s me packed.

Right??

So which of the ^ items should I buy?

I’m pretty pragmatic so I will go for buying the backpack.

    • 3rd May 2016 / 10:33

Yeah I think that’s the sensible choice. I keep putting it off as a boring purchase, and then getting annoyed at my current backpack for being all wrong. I should just learn, really!

    • 3rd May 2016 / 10:33

Thank you! And yes, that’s a good idea. It’s really sad to see her go.

  2. 3rd May 2016 / 09:33

We were in Santorini almost exactly a year ago, and I am so happy (read: jealous!) that you’ll be able to experience it! It’s one of the most beautiful places I’ve seen, despite the crowds. This wardrobe is perfect for it. It does get chilly at night, but unless it rains, the temperatures are gorgeous during the day. I’ll be stalking your IG feed while you’re gone to get my Greek island fix!

    • 3rd May 2016 / 10:32

Oooh cool! Thanks for the glowing review, I’m now even more excited than I was. Glad you approve of the wardrobe, I’m the worst at planning clothes for weather and I always seem to get it wrong so this gives me hope. Also I figure I can shop when I’m there, right!?

I’m going to be absolutely sickening on Insty, brace yourself!

ah i would totally join if i didn’t have a travel linkup of my own hehe. also! this list is superb. i get all my white t-shirts at target i must say. bc when they gross (you know what i mean) i can just snag some new ones stat. have fun in santorini!

    xoxo cheshire kat

    • 4th May 2016 / 19:28

That’s ok I’ll let you off! I will say it one more time… I WISH WE HAD TARGET! Sigh. Maybe I’ll go to a random supermarket (maybe Sainsbury’s?) and see what their clothes are like. Or New Look, they’re usually good. Anyway I’m just naming shops now…

Thanks, I’ll try very hard to have fun! Going to be tough with all that beautiful scenery but I’ll do my best.

  4. 3rd May 2016 / 15:46

yes to everything you are taking, have fun in your trip!
p.s. do you have one of these for Prague or Vienna?

    • 4th May 2016 / 19:25

Yay thanks! Sadly no, as I’ve only just started being this organised. I have this, Istanbul, Cambodia and that’s it! I think Swags has one for Vienna? In list form?

      • 4th May 2016 / 19:58

yes I do recall reading her vienna one!

  5. 3rd May 2016 / 16:55

I envy you so much for visiting Santorini! This place has been on my bucket list for ages!!! Have so much fun!!

    • 4th May 2016 / 19:24

I can’t wait!! It’s been on mine forever, too! Hurrah for crossing off bucket list things!

  6. 3rd May 2016 / 17:34

well obviously you should buy all the things! except for that white top because that is ridiculously overpriced lol.

    • 4th May 2016 / 19:24

Haha I knew I could count on you! And yes obviously not the white top. I’m not even sure how it’s priced that much… Ridiculous. I’m going to head down to the high street this weekend and see if I can’t find something better for a lot lot less!

  7. 3rd May 2016 / 18:54

That black dress is so cute, but such a bummer that nothing else worked for you! You really can’t go wrong with a simple black or white top either! They’re so easy to pair with just about anything! I’m glad that y’all are bringing some gluten free food with you this time! That would suck to run into the same issues that you did in Turkey!

    • 4th May 2016 / 19:23

I know, typical ordering blind downfall though. I always think it’s going to be fine and it’s just not! It is pretty though, just need a nice big necklace to go with it now. I think I’m going to hunt down some cheaper plain top options, because they are amazingly versatile. And I’ve got high hopes for the food this time!

  8. 3rd May 2016 / 20:32

I love the prints and stripes on the clothes you picked out! Great detail but also subtle 🙂 I like the print skirt and the backpack best 🙂

    • 4th May 2016 / 19:22

I do love a stripe, it’s getting a bit out of control now so I’m trying to rein it in. Hence the nice orange skirt! I’ve taken the skirt out for dinner once now and it did very well. So I have high hopes for its usefulness!

  9. 3rd May 2016 / 22:43

I stopped trusting myself with anything white during my travels! maybe you can be trusted more than me, but I was always getting things on it and then because clothes washing tends to happen less when traveling they end up getting stained. clearly i just eat like a 5 year old…lol.

    • 4th May 2016 / 19:21

Haha yep I’m a total nightmare as well. And yes so many times I’ve tried to scrub out stains in hotel bathrooms using the supplied soap, and it never goes well. I like to think that we just get excited about our food… that’s it, isn’t it?!

  10. 4th May 2016 / 00:08

I vote for the day dress from Boden!

We went to Santorini last year and I think you are completely on the right track with this packing list. You are going to have an amazing time, I can’t wait to read about it!

    • 4th May 2016 / 19:20

Oh good I was hoping someone would say that!

I’m glad you think I’ve packed well, this gives me hope. I usually have to end up emergency buying at least one item of clothing when I get somewhere, and I think that could get rather expensive in Santorini!

  11. 4th May 2016 / 00:44

Hi Rachel! I love the bikini and Boden dress – any time to wear blue and white is alright by me 🙂 Have such a great trip; I can’t wait to check back for photos!

    • 4th May 2016 / 19:19

I love the bikini too, and I am thisclose to buying that Boden dress. I just think it would be handy for so many things, and they do great quality stuff. Anyway… Thank you! Expect an obnoxious amount of posts about the place 😀

  12. 4th May 2016 / 01:58

I love packing posts! I’m going out of town this month, but I am a total over packer 🙂

    • 4th May 2016 / 19:18

They’re so satisfying, aren’t they? We’ll see how good it was when I get back, ha! I am usually an overpacker, I think this is probably too much for just 4 days as well but I know I’m going to end up chucking more into my bag…

  13. 4th May 2016 / 03:35

Your Santorini packing list looks cool. Everything looks comfy and I like you are taking a selection of dresses (I can live in dresses alone). Have tons of fun!

    • 4th May 2016 / 19:18

I love dresses so much! They do me for most things too. I believe in comfort over style which is why I’m not a fashion blogger 🙂

      Thank you!

I love that you have a packing list, I always tell myself to do this ahead of time too, but it never happens. We have a big trip at the end of the month that requires a ton of gear so I think I’m going to take a cue from you.

Can’t wait to see more from you trip, I think your packing list looks great

    • 4th May 2016 / 19:17

This is a brand new thing for me so we shall see how it goes! It’s about the first time I’ve ever followed through too, and I think half the reason is that it’s an excuse to go shopping…!

  15. 4th May 2016 / 18:02

Have fun in Santorini! I was just there in March and it was so amazing and kind of cold–it’s much warmer now I’m sure, but bring a few warm clothes just in case! I can’t believe Bonnie will no longer be hosting–it just won’t be the same! We will miss her.

    • 4th May 2016 / 19:17

Thanks! Ooh I’ll definitely add in another jumper then. I do feel the cold and I’d like to do as much outdoor dining as possible, so I will go prepared! Thanks for the tip. And yes it’s really sad about Bonnie; the end of an era!

  16. 5th May 2016 / 10:27

I’m all about the day dress! My French teacher always said a dress was perfect because it’s one piece of clothing and yet also the entire outfit – voilà! I like your transition to WordPress. I’m still on blogger because I got it to obey me (haha), but we will see about those terms updates and policies that you mentioned in your other post. Thanks for the heads up. 🙂

    • 5th May 2016 / 12:31

That’s exactly how I feel! And if a chic French person says it then it must be true. Glad you like the transition! I’m very pleased with it, mostly because it makes my life 100x easier.
