Being the slightly mean blogger that I am, I treated you to lots of pretty pictures from a gorgeous French town a couple of weeks ago, and then refused to tell you where it actually was. Yeah it was work confidentiality reasons blah blah. The project has finished now, and I am happy to reveal that my mystery French town was…
Congratulations to those of you who guessed where I was staying. I will reveal the winner at the bottom of the post, along with my novel winner-picking method. Note: she’s 4.5, loves ballet, and her favourite colours are blue and silver….
Before we get to that, let me give you my recommendations for enjoying your stay in the city.
3 things you should do in Troyes
Go shopping on the high street ¦¦ I challenge you to find a prettier high street to do your shopping on. There are a few of your high street favourites, and then some cute boutiques to go gift shopping crazy in. There’s even a bee shop, for everything bee related (from propolis to umbrellas with bees on).
Pig out on the food and drink ¦¦ It’s all exceptional and you really can’t go wrong; particular recommendations go to: chaource (the local cheese), any kind of champagne, charcuterie, steak, chocolate mousse…….
Take a photo walk around the old town ¦¦ Troyes has a beautiful old town and it’s all very walkable, so you can trot through every street in fairly short order. By day or by night, it’s all wonderfully scenic and if you’re anything like me you’ll barely put your camera down. Also it’s a very safe place so you can wander around alone without worrying.
3 things you shouldn’t do in Troyes
Try the andouilette ¦¦ It’s made with pig colon. Why would you do that? (P.S. Don’t educate me with what normal sausages are made with – I live in blissful ignorance…!)
Wear heels ¦¦ Most of the old town is cobbled, and they’re deceptively uneven. I nearly stacked it a few times even whilst wearing flats…
Visit the outlet malls ¦¦ Troyes is apparently famous for its outlet malls (it has three), but having visited what was apparently the best of them and come away disappointed, I’d say they’re best given a miss. There’s just not much in them and the prices are not very discounted at all.
And now on to the winner, who was drawn by my lovely niece out of her brand new hat. I’m pleased to say the winner is…
Bumble Bee Mum!
She will be receiving a gift from Troyes in the post very soon.
Have I tempted you to book a trip to Troyes yet?
