Hi fellow nomads,
After having restrained our wanderlust for far too long, Mr Nomad and I are packing our bags for a long weekend away. We deliberated long and hard about where to visit – there are just so many places we’d like to go to – but balancing time available, cost, and availability of flights we’ve decided to visit…
…the European Capital of Culture for 2014 and the largest city in the Baltic States, Riga!
We’ve only got a few short days there, and plenty we want to see, but I’m pretty sure it’s going to be an awesome weekend. There looks like heaps to do – museums, trips to the beach, and even some gluten free eateries. Not to speak of the architecture, which looks absolutely stunning. Whether it’s Jugendstil or Brutalist, there’ll be plenty to take in.
My grandparents actually visited Riga back in the 1970’s when the city was still behind the Iron Curtain, and apparently very much enjoyed their trip. My parents still have the beautiful tea set which my grandparents bought there.
I’m so excited to get out of the country and experience some new places. Travel makes me happy like nothing else, so I can’t wait.
Have you been to Riga? Do you have any top tips?
